UK trade in tropical fish and GM fish incidents recorded in the UK during 2006:
October 2006: The Competent Authority (CA) for the Netherlands investigated a consignment of ‘Glowlight Danios’ imported from Singapore, which the importer suspected to be GM.
November 2006: The CA in the Netherlands issued a report confirming that the suspect fish had been genetically modified to contain the red fluorescent protein (RFP) gene and had illegally been placed on the market. Further reports also confirmed GM Zebra danios (Danio rerio) had been marketed illegally in other EU member states including Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.
